Serena won two straight sets over the Russian in a match at Center Court, All England Club, London, Monday (9/7/2018). It only took 64 minutes to win 6-2, 6-2.
For Serena, this is the 13th time she qualified for the Wimbledon quarter-finals. The 23-year-old Grand Slam winner this year is chasing his eighth title at the tournament.
“I’m a perfectionist, I always find something wrong, I think the score is good but the match is harder than his score, he really can hit the ball well. That’s why he’s been going so far,” Serena said.
The WTA official website recorded a match between Serena and Rodina as the first fellow mate duel that took place in the Grand Slam arena.
“It’s great, I know that we’re both moms, I’m not sure how often this happens, if ever, it’s cool if you can be a mom, play tennis, and qualify for the Wimbledon quarterfinals,” Serena said.
In the quarterfinals, Serena has been waiting for Italy’s Camila Giorgi, who qualified after defeating Ekaterina Makarova (Russia) 6-3, 6-4.
