Serena beat Bulgarian qualifier Viktoriya Tomova at the All England Club in London on Wednesday (4/7/2018), 6-1, 6-4. The American finished the game within 66 minutes.

Serena is looking for her eighth title at Wimbledon. He previously also won two straight sets over Arantxa Rus (Netherlands) in the first round.

“It’s better than my first half and I’m happy to step in the right direction,” said Serena, who will face Tatjana Maria (Germany) or Kristina Mladenovic (France) in the third round.

In other matches, Venus had to fight three sets against Alexandra Dulgheru (Romania) before finally winning 4-6, 6-0, 6-1. The ninth seed will be challenged by Kiki Bertens (Netherlands) in the third round.

Wozniacki and Azarenka, two former world number one tennis players, both lifted suitcases after losing in the second round. Wozniacki was stopped by Ekaterina Makarova (Russia) with a score of 4-6, 6-1, 5-7, while Azarenka had to recognize the superiority of Karolina Pliskova (Czech Republic) with a score of 3-6, 3-6.
