Portugal national team appear dominant since the beginning of the game. They kept pounding the Iranian defense through attacks from both sides of the wing.
Despite appearing dominant, Portugal did not provide much of a threat to the Iranian defense. Discipline of Iranian players guarding the defense area leaves Portugal with little chance of scoring.
But in the end Portugal are able to score goals at the end of the first half. Ricardo Quaresma who stabbed the left side of the Iranian defense to play 1-2 bait with Adrien Silva before firing a directional shot into the right corner of the Iran goalkeeper.
1-0 advantage in the first half did not make Portugal complacent. They kept pressing the Iranian defense from the start of the second half. In the 53rd minute, Portugal got a penalty after Saeid Ezzatollahi broke Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ronaldo advanced as an executor but his shot was read well by Iranian goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand.
After failing to score through a penalty, Ronaldo continues to be the motor of Portugal’s attack. In the 66th minute, Ronaldo was able to escape from the siege of Portugal players and fired hard but still not dangerous goal.
Portugal continue to master the game until the final 10 minutes of the game. In the 81st minute, Ronaldo got a yellow card for elbowing Morteza Pouraliganji.
In injury time, Iran got a penalty after Cedric Soares handball. This decision was also taken after the referee saw VAR.
Karim Ansarifard was able to do his job well and make the score to be 1-1
After a moment of equalizing goals, Iran has a good chance to turn ahead through Mehdi Taremi. But Taremi failed to take advantage of the opportunity and his shot off the right side of the goal.
A 1-1 draw this makes Portugal qualify for the round of 16 with the status of runner-up group B. Portugal will face Uruguay in the round of 16 large.
