Moscow – Morocco realizes how dangerous Cristiano Ronaldo is. Therefore, they will try to make Ronaldo not as special as usual.
Morocco will face Portugal at the Luzhniki Stadium, Moscow on Wednesday (20/06/2018), in their second match in Group B of the 2018 World Cup. The team nicknamed the Atlas Lions needed a positive result to turn the chances of qualifying for the next round after losing 0 -1 from Iran in the first game.
Ronaldo will be the biggest threat to Morocco’s defense. The Real Madrid star was immediately hot in the 2018 World Cup by carving out a hat-trick when Portugal drew 3-3 with Spain.
“All I can say is that he is a special player and that may not even be enough, we have to do everything to make his performance not so special,” said Morocco coach Herve Renard at FourFourTwo.
Renard insists his team will not be overpowering Ronaldo because the other Portuguese players are also dangerous. He reminded how Portugal beat France in the 2016 European Cup final.
“If we put three players to keep Ronaldo, I do not know how we will keep the other players, they have a very high quality attack line, we do not forget that we are the European champions,” said Renard.
“If we have good memories, he (Ronaldo) is injured in the final against France and his teammates remain capable of making a difference.Of course, he is an essential element, but we need to sleep well tonight, eh!” he said.
“If you face Cristiano Ronaldo just once in your life, you have to perform as well as possible,” said Renard.
