Messi made a scapegoat over the inability of Argentina beat Iceland in the 2018 World Cup. Because of the penalty execution ditepis by the opponent goalkeeper, Tango team must receive a 1-1 draw.
The Argentine defender, Cristian Ansaldi, supports Messi to rise and return to peak performance. Ansaldi also believes Messi knows how to forget about the penalty failure.
“Obviously we all know how important Messi is, not just for us but for the 45 million people in Argentina as well,” Ansaldi said in a press conference ahead of Group D’s second matchday against Croatia.
“We all know how strong he is, thank God he is the best on and off the pitch He knows how to handle this (a failed penalty), and that’s how he keeps his level for years, breaks all the records,” he continued.
“Of course he was devastated by penalty failures and as a professional player is he knows what the meaning of penalty failure,” Ansaldi said as quoted Sportskeeda.
Ansaldi also reminded that Messi is the hero of his team in World Cup qualifying. Hat-trick Messi in a 3-1 win over Ecuador in the decisive game ensured Argentina went to Russia.
“But this is football, and we must thank him because his goal helped us here, to live this dream,” Ansaldi asserted.
