Reported by News.com, Monday (16/07/2018), the jaguar was named Valerio. He was eventually paralyzed with an anesthetic after killing four alpaca, an emu bird, and two foxes, and wounding three other animals.
Despite the rampage and slaughter of other animals, veterinarian Audobon zoo, Frank Burks ensures Valerio will not be injected to death.
“Nothing will happen to the jaguar itself, but unfortunately, it just does what the jaguars do,” said Burks.
Related officials said the zoo staff knew Valerio roam freely at Audobon Zoo, New Orleans, at around 7:20 pm yesterday. Finally the vet succeeded in preparing a sedative and calming him down.
Jaguars at the Audobon Zoo are kept in glass for exhibition ‘Jaguar Jungle’. In the same area there is also alpaca, giant ant eaters, spider monkeys, tropical frogs, monkeys, and tarantulas.
The Zoo said in an official statement, “Our staff mourned the loss of our animals, the investigation was underway and we immediately released the information when it was available, preliminary findings indicating staff negligence is not a factor of this incident,” he said.
The zoo’s party details the non-surviving Alpaca animals named Noel, Micia, Alexandria, and Lil Melody. Also a fox named Maggie Mae and an emu bird named Elmo.
