The incident occurred on Saturday morning (25/8) at a hotel in Harbin, the capital of Heilongjiang province.
China’s official news agency, Xinhua reported as reported by the AFP news agency on Saturday (08/25/2018), 18 people have been confirmed dead.
“The rescue operation is still underway,” Xinhua reported, citing information from local firefighters.
Not yet known the cause of the fire. “The investigation into the cause of the fire is still ongoing,” Xinhua said.
Building fires often occur in China due to security regulations that are often ignored.
Earlier in April, 18 people were killed and five others were injured in a fire at a karaoke place in southern China. Last November 2017, a fire in a cottage in Beijing killed 19 people and injured 8 others. In May 2015, 38 people were found dead due to fires in nursing homes in Hunan province, central China.
