Trine, Knudsen’s wife, had to deliver a few weeks earlier than expected. Though the new Knudsen landed in Russia to perform at the 2018 World Cup.
Knudsen was flown home with a rented private jet, shortly after the 1-0 win over Panama on the first Group C matchday, Saturday (16/6). Denmark’s mainstay goalkeeper, Kasper Schmeichel, revealed the reason he and his colleagues helped Knudsen.
“We want to look to the humanist side, and many players have become fathers in this squad, you have to know that we are also human beings besides footballers,” he told the BBC.
“As a father who is also a father, I can not imagine how hard it is to be Jonas when he gets the message and can not be there, we want to do everything for him to see his daughter,” added the Leicester City goalkeeper.
The Ipswich Town defender later also announced the birth of his daughter by uploading a photo of a small Danish jersey held by his wife.
“On Tuesday we were the parents of a healthy, beautiful little baby, all working well and now we are ready for the World Cup Thank you for all the messages #prouddad,” wrote Instagram account @ jonasknudsen92.
Knudsen has returned to join the Danish squad on Monday (18/6). But he was not played when Denmark offset Australia 1-1, Thursday (21/06/2018).
